Damn, I'm already on Free Form journal #5 after only a year and a half-ish of journaling. Crazy to think where I'll be in a few years.
I was talking to Dan about this Tuesday that the time to build structures and processes in place is when we have positive momentum. Let's capitalize on the energy that we have by formalizing and systemizing to whatever degree what is necessary to ensure sustained and growing success. Because the thing is when we're so deep in the day-to-day or always assume that the positive outcomes will continue to happen, we take less time to reflect. We keep doing what got us there and we take less time to think about how and why doing those things has worked. That reflection is key to keep going individually, collectively in all facets of life. Because as in the case with momentum, you can have so much at one time that it may be too much all at once to manage. So it's about momentum management. When that momentum gets to be too much, it has to slow down somehow. The question is do you want that slow down to be intentional or unintentional? To intentionally manage it, you need a process and structure to fall back on. To keep the momentum going at a pace that is controlled but that can be sustained for longer. Not only do you need the process and structure, but just as important is the buy-in or alignment, if it's an organization, that the established process is what we're all following. I can be guilty of over-processing or over-structuring stuff, so it comes down to the right time to be process-oriented and enhancing the process vs executing ruthlessly against the process.
It's actually almost like the chicken and the egg again. What came first? The action or the process? For example, in building my Life OS in Notion, I took action to create the process. Then I followed the process to take more action. Then I took action to augment and improve the process. Then I followed that process. And so on. The action is the process The process is the action. Both are true. It just depends again on what particular moment in time you choose. Same with the chicken and the egg. The chicken is the egg. The egg is the chicken. Just depends on when. You can't have action without some process. And you can't follow the process if you don't take action. They are inextricably linked.
So , I'll ask it once more: what came first, the chicken or the egg? Yes.
