The other day someone said I had a minimalistic mindset and that's something I need to change. I almost felt defensive about it but I let those feelings pass and tried to approach it from a neutral standpoint. I asked myself "What if this was true?" "Do I have a minimalistic mindset?" "Can an abundance mindset and minimalistic mindset coexist?" "Do I really have what I think I do of an abundance mindset?" "What would lead them to saying I'm minimalistic?"
An abundance mindset is knowing that there is always enough for me, there will always be enough for me, and I can create more with ease. It's a win-win-win. Its knowing that someone else being successful is a reason for me also being successful, not against. It's not a zero-sum game.
So what then is a minimalistic mindset? I don't think its the same as scarcity mindset. Scarcity mindset is driven from a place of fear. That if I don't get mine, someone else will get it. Zero sum game. Winner-loser scenario. Minimalistic mindset, then, means that I have everything I need and I don't need to get other things or experiences to bring me happiness. I think the key distinction to make here is that when more comes into my life, I don't say no to it. But if more doesn't come into my life, I say yes to that also. So the question here is, then, with a minimalistic mindset, do I actively say no to less or more, or do I welcome either and all options?
It can become a vanity metric to say that 'I lived with less money or food or opulence for longer than you' but that's from a place of fear. I have to be more aware of opportunities that allow me to practice that abundance mindset. I'm happy living what some may say is a minimalistic life. But to me, it's more than abundant. Again, these are mindsets, not physical characteristics. It's all in the eye of the beholder. And it's the way they define the words. If I'm happy with $1 or $1,000,000, some might call me living with $1 minimalistic and living with $1 million abundant. These are just words that try to characterize and describe the energy that we're creating and flowing with. Minimalist and abundant mindsets are both similar that people in both categories are content with what they have. If we further describe minimalist as being the same 'amount' of happy if they were given more, then that's actually the same as an abundance mindset!
We draw a difference between the two because of the conscious, physical realities of these seemingly contradictory ideas. But at it's core, minimalism and abundance are the exact same eternal, energetic, states of being. So I'm both minimalistic AND abundant. I have a minimalistically abundant mindset, identity, state of being, and energy.
