I think I'm progressing along nicely in Tai Chi. Practicing just a bit every day or at least every other day. Last week Sifu passingly said to another student that "I was solid until wherever he's learned." Which is as much of a compliment as I've ever heard him say lol. Learned the next couple of moves at Tuesday's class, which was outside the church. There were quite a few people there but magnificent weather to do Tai Chi. Shaded, breeze blowing, surrounded by trees.
I didn't actually see the Sadhguru video but I saw the thumbnail in my recommended about eating more water. To consume more water and to hydrate we normally think of just drinking water and maybe juices. But since the majority of the content of fruits is water, it makes sense that we should equally be hydrating by eating fruits and vegetables. I've noticed since knowing this that my nasal passage will be somewhat restricted before hydrating myself. Sometimes it does free up a bit when drinking water. But other times it doesn't when I drink water, but it does when I eat water in the form of fruits and vegetables. I'll be continuing to pay attention to that and actually watch the video.
One of the things I've been doing for the 6-Time book in the area of compassion is preemptive gratitude. If I can be grateful for something or someone before it's happened, then I go into the situation with an outlook that's going to be optimistic no matter what actually happens. Similar to the entry yesterday - when praying, don't pray for exactly what I want, pray for how I want to respond to whatever happens - with love, compassion, gratitude, and peace. It also reminds me to visualize and internalize the feelings I want myself to be feeling when I know something will happen. E.g. our 2U 2.0 launch. I try to feel the celebration, joy, and happiness of launching it in myself and sharing that moment with colleagues so that it's more likely to happen. I love when those images in my mind become a reality.
Also realized that practice is just imprints we're placing in our mind and body. The more imprints we can intentionally, in a focused manner place in ourselves, the easier it becomes to do. Goes for both positive and negative things in our life, and how consciously we can place those imprints. When we feel like we don't have control over what we do or why we did them, I think it's because we don't realize how they came to be. When we can understand how and why something happened truly, only then can we start to address it. It really is about understanding the problem. I think the world is eager to provide solutions to problems it tells we have and problems we aren't trained to recognize. Einstein was like given an hour to solve a problem, he'd spend 55 minutes figuring out the problem and 5 min trying to find the solution. We don't spend enough time getting to the root cause of things. And in life, the root cause of everything happening is karma, or imprints, or intentions, or however you want to think about it. And since people don't recognize that, the same cycle of stress, misery, unhappiness continues to happen. Everyone wants the takeaways, aka the solutions. But they don't want to 100% focus on the problem / opportunity at hand to grow.
I used to think that playing violent video games wouldn't impact behavior. But why wouldn't it? Violent imprints are being placed in people playing, lot of the time teenagers in an extremely formative time of their life. We just see the news-causing events and sensationalized stories of the extreme situations. But I think it goes way deeper than that. It creeps into small things that we do on a daily basis. When we see and perform violent actions in a video game, people like to focus on the actions. But maybe people are just more likely to be a bit harsher with what they say to their friends or family. Or their self-talk becomes more negative b/c violent imprint → violent thought about themselves. IDK. All this to say that if we understand the true implications of what we absorb through our senses, we can pinpoint the root cause of issues, and then create positive imprints to become who we want to become.
