How Can I Utilize Temptation Bundling? | 9/27/21

Sunday was an ideal day as I hike-ran Crowders Mountain's Rocktop Trail, which was a 6.6 miles journey. It was a good baseline as I'll continue to go there more frequently to improve my time. It has the natural elevation that'll challenge me and my cardio and endurance. I don't know why this was the first time I've ever done something like that up a mountain. First of many hopefully.

Decreased my time watching NFL and was more productive as I even got some work for LaundroLab done. I didn't want to go overboard with working 5 hours on work stuff and not continue it going forward, but this 1-2 hours was a good start to getting stuff done for work. Speaking of productivity and focus, gotta catch up on Becoming Indistractible question prompts.

There were a bunch of Chrome extensions that he mentioned he uses and that we can use to hack back social media, YouTube, and articles. I already made changes on my phone with regards to the placement of those apps so let's see how that goes before going overboard here too. One concept in there was called temptation bundling. What can be something that I temptation bundle? I want to do more stretching right before I sleep. I also seem to masturbate right before sleeping too frequently as well so let's solve both issues with one solution. I can only masturbate if I stretch before sleeping. Then I foresee this evolving into stretching being a trigger and the following act being journaling or reading or meditating or something else beneficial, or maybe just sleeping lol. This isn't the ideal end scenario, but it's a means to an end of having the habits and practices that we want. Gradual progress - 1% growth. :)

List 1-2 precommitments I've had in my life and why it worked for me. Signing up for courses that are at specific times, like ISHA Inner Engineering or EKAA. I've committed fully to those and also because I invested my own money into it. Since money is energy, investing money into something acts like your energy already going towards that activity. Money is a conduit of energy for our motivation though. Again, in some aspects I'm ahead of this level but in others I'm not. I just have to find the opportunities to utilize this technique of money motivating me as a stepping stone of progress towards transcending external motives and towards internal motives. For example, I did it for the Crowders Mountain hike and deep work times on Sunday. Going to a separate physical environment like the yurt for my Quarterly Circle also is a precommitment that I'm going to invest my energy into myself. Otherwise, others will invest my energy into what they want.

Thinking about effort pacts and my long term goals, that's basically all of the content that I'm publishing so it's definitely more than 1 person who can hold me accountable there.

What are 3 ways I can remind myself of my new identity as an Indistractible person? I want to buy a shirt that says that. I want to place a sticky note at home and at work that says that. I can also incorporate it into my Lofty Questions, with something like "Why am I so indistractible today?"

The most recent topic he talked about was emails. Something that stood out was he said that the most important thing about an email is not its content, but rather how urgently it needs a reply. I want to add tags to the emails that need a reply based on when they need a reply. "Today" or "this week" is what Nir uses. Then I can use my time-blocked chunk for email response to crush through those on the daily level and 2-3 hours, if needed, on the "this week" ones at the end of the week.

I also want to indicate to people that I am indistractible. I can set up automation with Slack and G Cal that if I'm in a meeting, then Slack is in do not disturb mode. I'll still get the red bubble icon though, which can be distracting. Maybe I can tell people to schedule the slack for when I'm out of DND mode unless it's truly urgent. A physical sign could also help, if people want to come up and talk to me. Lots of options here! Excited to increase my indistractibility!
