On the flight back to Charlotte now as I write this. Spent the last 3 weeks in KC learning a lot, and becoming more of the person that I want to be. Things I want to focus on this year and this quarter, I can already sense minor, but tangible shifts regarding those issues. I plan on posting this as my first blog post, so I'm really excited to start that project as well. Kicked off recording my vlogs so will edit them in batches weekly and release them a week after they were recorded. The planning project came to an end obviously and I was actually kinda sad because I had really involved myself in it. I almost didn't know what to do when that was done lol. Of course I did though since I had planned it all out. But it was bittersweet, yet extremely exciting to move from the planning phase to now the execution phase.
Spending time with family was a big thing to improve this year, so I definitely feel like I'm taking the next step (and a big one) to being closer to everyone The plan of having family meetings before I came to KC actualized, and we were able to discuss topics in detail. It was good getting aligned, or at least on the path to becoming aligned as a family, financially, relationships-wise home and other lifestyles, professionally, what we all want to learn, philanthropically, and others. These were heated arguments at times, times when tears were shed, laughs exchanged, and deeper thoughts had. There can be a lot of pressure internally and externally to do XYZ things or be ABC person, so talking things through gave us each a better understanding of how we think. Though there is a vast diversity in thought amongst the 4 of us, there are principles that we agree on that should guide us. It's easy to talk about those values when it's time to talk about those values, but how well do we internalize and practice them makes all the difference in actually living by those values. I hadn't necessarily been a part of these conversations all of the time since I'm not at home, but having maybe 10-15+ hours of discussion with them throughout this 3 weeks allowed me to break the ice more. One of the points of feedback that I received coming into this year was that I spend a lot of time listening to and watching content by "successful" people. This is true and can and is very valuable to me. But they said that I should also take time to learn more about my own friends, since they can have insights and provide value just as much, if not more, as these "successful" people. Obviously, included in that is also family. I put some friendships and even sometimes work as a 2nd priority during these 3 weeks to be more with the family. I'm glad I did so. This isn't something that's automatic to me so I'm making progress in that regards. I think I'll look back in 10 and 20 years when I'm a completely different person and think back to this month of December and January and say this is where it all turned around. Even though friends were a 2nd priority this time, I was still able to connect more openly and deeply with them, something else that I'm emphasizing this quarter / year. In the past, I might not feel as comfortable sharing what I did to the people that I talked to this 'break.' But I'm aware that I need to be consistent with anyone that I talk to, be it family, friends, or anyone else. And doing all this content generation will be a big piece of that. I don't need to share the exact same details with everybody, but I do need to have the same underlying principles and values while recognizing my assumptions and beliefs about why I want to share and act one way with one friend and do so differently with another. It's a long journey, but definitely a worthwhile one.
I also learned so much in the 3 books that I finished here. Still actually need to review my notes and debrief from them in the coming days and weeks to really understand, internalize, and practice the ideas, concepts and topics discussed in those books. Don't worry readers, I'll post the books I've read along with my notes of them on my website at some point so you too can perhaps connect with something or be inspired. After reading The Count of Monte Cristo recently, I almost relate exactly to Edmond Dantes. Everything before I moved to Charlotte was Dantes' normal life, about to be wed to Mercedes. Then the pandemic hit, I moved to Charlotte (he gets imprisoned). Up until now I had been experiencing life here and there but without a purpose and a mission (first X years of Dantes' imprisonment). Then now Dantes discovered Abbe Faria and was learning so much from him (that's me now). He tells Dantes of the riches that are there in the Isle of Monte Cristo. Most other people think he's crazy or naive but he wants to get there. I know all the spiritual, financial, emotional, professional, etc. riches that are available to me. But I must continue learning to reach that island. One day, I'll have a master plan that I'm architecting (of course instead of driven by vengeance I will be driven by love and compassion). And of course Charlotte is not a prison but just the environment where I'm learning about myself and all the possibilities out there. So in 10 or 20 years, I'll look back at these 3 weeks in December & January and realize this was the moment I discovered Abbe Faria and the possibilities of life!
