Why do I want the experience of learning deeply about many of the world’s major systems?
Because that’s going to be one of my biggest value adds to society - redefining various systems in the country and perhaps the world. I want to master each of the major ones like education, business, government, and so on. They are such behemoths that it’s impossible to tackle holistically with all that scope that I want to.
So with what I’m doing personally, it’s doing a bit of depth then breadth, then continuing to expand in each direction. Prove success in the micro, and then take it a bit more macro after that.
There’s potentially at least 4 different approaches here. Top-down, bottom-up, inside-out, outside-in. All major policies are a top-down, outside-in view. People have been accustomed to that. AND there can be more emphasis on bottom-up and inside out. Bottom-up being grassroots efforts. Start at the smallest, lowest level and build momentum and work your way up. Inside out is geared more towards changing the people that are in the system. Perhaps even by those same people.
But of course that means that those same people have to change their beliefs. Because the thing that all systems have in common is that they are created by people. And have some purpose for some people.
What I’ve noticed in my just writing of the OOS for 2U is that things are naturally shifting towards what I wrote, even without me pushing for anything. I put all the thoughts (energy) out there and its swerving its way towards that. So maybe what I do is write a book on a Life OS. I have expertise in that and as I get my business going, I’ll have even more expertise in it. Then once I publish a book on it, things may naturally unfold for people in a way that I outlined.
I can take James Clear’s approach and have the blog posts be the building blocks for the book, just a bit repurposed and repackaged.
The cool thing there is I am basically writing it right now anyways with my LinkedIn articles. There will be ways of integrating all of that cohesively into a book.
All the systems we’ve built into the country are incredibly complex and if we were to process map them out, that would take an eternity.
So instead my approach should be to clearly articulate the purpose of the system and have everything simple enough for people to follow and comprehend. So learn theoretically about a system, then live it for a period of time long enough to understand how it works, and then start formulating the system and writing the book, and then work with people to implement something like it somewhere.
Another corollary reason I want the experience is because I resonate with people who have theories out there that can change the way we think and act as a society. Hmm, systems are just the applications of theories. To ensure someone’s theories live on, a system is a concrete way of doing that. So my mastery may go from theory → system via my exposition, experience, and execution.
