Why do I want to have 1x1 conversations with people I currently aspire to be like in some manner?
This is going from the financial aspect of my career to more of the human relationship side of my career. 1x1 because, that I believe, is the best way to get to know how someone thinks. There would be less of a filter hopefully because it’s just me listening. Though that’s the advantage of 1x1, conversing in a group setting allows people to express a different side of themselves.
I just said 1x1 because that’s what I prefer. And because that’s the current format of my podcast. So to adjust I want to have both 1x1 and group conversations with these people. I think in a private setting with no real external circumstances, there’s one person. In a public setting, I’m able to see how what they may talk about in a private unfolds and manifests. 1x1 may just be the micro and group / social setting may be the macro. It’s just a different perspective on the same person, or object, in the subject-object relationship. It’s also a way for me to notice the alignment in what someone says and thinks and what they do.
In the context of my career though, I want one of my income streams, whether directly or indirectly, to involve being in the company and connecting with world class performers. Just soaking in their best attributes, absorbing their energy, receiving their wisdom, and even having intellectually stimulating conversations where we potentially disagree. But there are common values across those interactions. To be in those circles.
Well one way to do that is to potentially work ‘my way up’ my current circles. Kinda like trading social circles up and up. Kinda like the guy who traded in a paperclip all the way to buy a house.
The other way is to create those circles myself. So I may not immediately create or even have access to those circles I eventually want to be among. But I can create the circles with people in my age group and younger who are on the path to have some outsized impact on society. I can set up those circles before they even become ‘big’ so the infrastructure to connect is already present. That’s what my business plan has kinda morphed into being. At least a portion of it.
Also, it’s kinda cool to see the evolution of my beliefs within my Career Life Domain mirror the growth my business. Like when I started going through the Career Life Domain in February, this business I’m launching wasn’t a thing. But as my beliefs have crystallized and strengthened, so has my external world, especially in relation to my career. I’m looking forward to continue along this path for the next few months and quarters.
