Why Is Business Ethics Even A Course? | 6/20/21

There's so many learnings that I want to go deeper on that are now scattered across this journal, my Thought Vault, Media Vault and Course Vault notes. Been using the 'Me' section in the notes to capture anything that I think of when consuming that piece of content. So just need to comb through that at some point.

I realize I have so many ideas on the 10 min power meditation walk to warm up during Tai Chi class. I wish I could record some of them cuz I don't remember them immediately after. Oh well.

I love going to Freedom Park and Optimist pretty much every week and relaxing by reading and journaling primarily. But it's a true test of my intentions since pretty much everyone who comes to those places has a significant other lol. Testing me - can I love myself as much as I tell myself and others.

Why is business ethics even a course? It just assumes that people don't have ethics in a business setting normally. It's pretty laughable honestly. That means there's something wrong with the system if a business or economic system doesn't incentivize ethics as the primary motivating factor. It's not even a motivating factor lol. Ethics should just be a part of us, our identity. How much of other classes do students remember? Barely anything. You think they're going to act ethically because of one course for one semester? LMAO! They're going to continue to act personally and professionally like the person they've been their whole lives. Now what about growth? Yes, 100% But one course does not cause growth in and of itself. At least the current ways the vast majority of high school, college, and graduate level courses are structured. There are no 'business' ethics and 'individual' ethics, and 'community' ethics, etc. It basically comes down to how a person views other people. If they view them as a separate person whose situation is not as important as theirs, then there's no chance, no matter how many business ethics courses they take. Now, if they view others as really themselves, that anything done to others is really done to themselves, then there's no need for ethics or values because those are a byproduct of this love, compassion, and understanding. All the positive values are inherent in people who approach the world this way. Why do we even have values? I guess because there doesn't exist 'good' in all situations. Darkness doesn't exist, just the absence of light. Hate doesn't exist, just the absence of love. Violence doesn't exist, just the absence of peace. Ignorance doesn't exist, just the absence of wisdom. These seem controversial but I don't really think so. It's just that there isn't enough love, peace, and wisdom within people and for others (really the same, remember) that people act in dark, hateful, violent, ignorant ways. If they view everyone else as themselves, then why would you act in those ways to others. It goes the other way too. There is no unity in thought, word, and deed when you are loving towards others, peaceful in external situations while living in internal turmoil and not giving yourself enough love. Both ways have to exist. Both ways do exist! We just haven't peeled back enough layers to realize this in most cases. Self-love is really just love towards others. And love is really just self-love! So really, business ethics is just a self-love experience! :)
